Winter Glow Makeup Ft. BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Palette

It's currently snowing and raining-sn...snaining? Rowing?-outside my window as I write this.

I was told to dress up a little more than usual for work tomorrow for a client visit and I'm at a loss. Too cold for heels, too cold for dresses, just...too cold. Dressing up in the cold is the worst. Winter makeup on the other hand, can sometimes be fun!

I finally put away my NYX Ultimate Brights Palette (for now) and opted for something a little more season appropriate. I'll show you the look I came up with here in a minute but first I want to talk about the BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Palette.

This palette first came out a few years ago and if you didn't hear of it then, odds are that you have by now because it's still one of their best selling palettes. I went to my local Ulta and they only had a very select few BH Cosmetics items...this palette was one of them!

This was my first BH Cosmetics purchase ever. I see tons of palettes from BH Cosmetics at Burlington and TJ Maxx all the time and that was the first place I ever saw the brand, so I figured that it was one of those no-name cheapie brands that would break me out in a New York minute if I tried to use them. Now, having tried them, I can say that BH Cosmetics definitely reaches a high level of quality. Their eye shadows are WAY better than some drugstore brands (which shall remain mostly nameless). So if you're sleeping on them like I was, give them a try!

I'm not going to lie, I did not plan on buying a new eyeshadow palette when I woke up that day. I may or not have glanced at the BH Cosmetics website just before I went to lunch and gotten instantly hooked on the picture of the Galaxy Chic Palette. I had been wanting a new shimmer palette anyway so I just chalked it up to destiny and bought it on the fly. (I ended up getting to use a $5 off of $15 coupon so it totally must have been meant to be!)

This palette. Is. So. Gorgeous. And I am SO GLAD that I bought one before they decide to stop making it! There are 18 baked shimmer shadows that are named for things in outerspace and a couple named after greek gods/goddesses.

I may or not have been so excited to swatch this when I got home that I dug my finger into the shade "Electra" a little too hard, thinking it was going to be one of those baked shadows with a film on the top. (These shadows are so not like that; they're so smooth it's like giving a rubber ducky a tummy rub.) I swatched them in the same order as you see above, left to right, top to bottom: Sun, Jupiter, Prometheus, Aphrodite, Milky Way, Cosmic, Saturn, Venus, Meteor, Comet, Earth, Neptune, Mercury Mars, Asteroid, Electra, Moon and Pluto.

The pigment is FAN-TASTIC. I mean. They shimmer like NOBODY'S BUSINESS and not in a tacky way with too many glitter chunks. (You know how when people type in all caps, they say they're not really yelling? I totally am. That's how much I love this palette.) There is a tiny bit of fallout but I can deal with that when considering the buttery consistency.

I really love that the 18 different shades are really 18 different shades. In some palettes, it seems that a bunch of the shades are basically identical. *Cough*E.L.F. Endless Eyes Palette*Cough*. but each of these shades is completely unique and ridiculously beautiful. I was never a fan of the red shadow trend when it was popular  but I will definitely be rocking the shade "Jupiter" at some point.
, My two favorite shades in this palette have to be Sun (top) and Saturn (bottom), which are both gold-toned. I have a sneaking suspicion that they would make bomb highlighters as well. I used Sun with a dark shade from my NYX Dreamcatcher Palette to do a very simple soft, shimmery

smokey eye that's perfect for holiday parties or get-togethers.

The highlighter I used here is the Urban Decay's Naked Illuminating Powder. (My makeup junkie cousin bought it for me!) Y'all. The glow is REAL. Having used this highlighter, I would definitely say to pack it on, not brush it on, to build up the glow.

The Galaxy Chic Palette will probably be my new favorite for a while and it's absolutely perfect for the holidays. 'Tis the season to be sparkly! And of course, BH Cosmetics is cruelty free which I LOVE and so is Urban Decay.

What's another palette full of shimmery shadows you would recommend? Have you tried the Galaxy Chic Palette? (If you did I know you loved it. How can you not?) What are your your favorite holiday looks? Leave a comment and let me know!

Happy Glowing!
