Tarte Cosmetics Tarteist LAsh PAint Mascara Review

Happy 2018 Beauty Bunnies!

I know that I've been away for quite some time and I'm sorry for the radio silence. Work has been quite a bit more taxing than usual but I am back! And I have something super exciting for you: a review of Tarte Cosmetics's mascara, Tarteist Lash Paint!

Before we talk about that, I had planned maybe a week ago to do a post on Hard Candy's Stick It To Pores Primer Stick. I featured it on my Instagram along with Hard Candy's Sheer Envy Banana Powder.

I won't spend too long on the primer because unfortunately, it's been discontinued, at least as far as I can tell. It's no longer available on their website or on Wal-Mart.com. Total bummer, because this primer is amazing!
  • The packaging is so cute! It totally makes me think of Too Faced for some reason. The retro color along with the scripty font give it a high end look. The box it comes in cuts a sleek profile and I love the design.
  • The smell is nice, at least to me. It doesn't smell fruity or floral-y or anything like that. It smells very clean, like a mild soap and I like it. It smells like it's really good for my skin.
  • The formula feels like a very thick chapstick. It actually looks like a chapstick as well, or possibly a cheek chubby. It goes on smooth, like a full coverage balm. It definitely feels like another layer but not thick or greasy-just the right amount of protection.
  • The wear is amazing. I'm going to be honest with you guys-ya girl has oily skin! My face looks like a gigantic grease grenade by the end of the day whenever I wear full makeup. I watched a video recently on how to create a smoother finish for foundation and the number one tip was to wear a good primer. I used a damp beauty blender to apply my regular foundation over this primer, set my t-zone with a powder and voila-by the end of the day, my skin still looked flawless. I have to say, I was amazed!

I wish Hard Candy would bring this back! I know that they have the Coconut Water Primer Stick still on the shelves but it's supposed to be extra moisturizing with a cooling sensation. My skin is far from dry, so I'll pass.

Update: This is back on the shelves at WalMart! Please believe, I picked up a few!

One thing that is still on the shelves is Tarte's Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara. It claims to give lashes a 2700% volume boost by way of "triple-black mineral ingredients". Hm.

Now, I normally would never give a second thought to a mascara that costs more than $10. Ironically, Ulta recently had a holiday sale featuring full sized Tarte mascara's for-you guessed it-$10. I saw some amazing video reviews for both the Tarteist and Maneater mascara's and the results are supposed to be incredible.

I didn't actually find about the sale until a couple hours before it was over and I didn't have a babysitter! However, when beauty calls, duty calls, so I packed up both of my toddlers and drove to Ulta, getting there 15 minutes before they closed. I was pretty proud of myself and so psyched to be getting such a great deal!

So, I s̶t̶r̶u̶g̶g̶l̶e̶d̶ strolled over to the Tarte display...to find that they were sold. The freak. Out. Not just Tarteist, every single Tarte mascara.

Y'all. I was devastated. Ya girl was so salty. But a few days later I managed to scrounge up a trial size for $12. Not the best price but by this point I was dying to try it! Try it I did-and now I will give you guys a real deal, honest review.

I have to admit the first time I used it, I was in for even more disappointment. My lashes didn't look anything like the videos (anyways, when does that ever happen?). I made up my mind to return it but I ended up forgetting my go-to mascara before work one day and the only one in my purse was this one, so I tried it again.

Okay so first of all, wow. Maybe not 2700% wow but definitely wow! The thing that really makes a difference is how you apply it. I'm sure you all know the wiggle trick but this mascara needs a much lighter hand when employing it. After two coats of very light touches, I promise you, I looked like I was wearing false lashes. I put it on at 8:30 in the morning and after 10 hours of wear, there wasn't a single smudge.

Also, and this is what I love most about it, it's not waterproof. This might sound like a con but waterproof mascaras are so hard to get off at the end of the day. This one lasts when I want to wear it and comes off when I don't.

I am in love. Probably the only other mascara I'll ever consider is O!Mega by Marc Jacobs in the color Blacquer. (That one is more about volume than length and man, is it amazing.)

What do you guys think? Based on my review, would you pay for the full sized product? Do you know any mascaras that work just as well?

I hope you liked this post! I'm hoping to do a lot more reviews of new products soon and I might possibly smell a giveaway. Til next time, babes!

Heyy Ty!
Ive never tried any Tarte mascaras but my go-to's at the moment are the Smashbox Indecent Exposure Mascara and the SleekMakeUp Mascara. First i apply my lash gel and then start applying and the dont make my lashes feel heavy or clumpy! Im loving your blog 😘😘😘
